1963-64 Big 8 Champs Glass This one states "Big Eight and Orange Bowl Champions 1963-64." The Huskers only lost a close 17-13 game to Air Force in Lincoln to capture a 10-1 record enroute to a 5th/6th place finish in the polls at the end of the 1963 season. In the end, NU finished strong with a 29-20 win over Oklahoma in Lincoln, followed by a 13-7 victory over Auburn in the Orange Bowl on January 1st. |

1964-65 Big 8 Champs Glass This is a great glass from the 60's commemorating the 1964-65 Big 8 Championships. It showcases the schedules from both years on either side of the front panel. The Huskers ended the season 9-2 in 1964, losing only to OU in the final game of conference pay, then losing 10-7 to Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl, ending up #6 in both polls. In 1965, the Huskers ended up 10-1, losing to Alabama 39-28 in the Orange Bowl, finishing 3d in the UPI and 5th in the AP.

1966 Season Glass The Huskers finished the season 9-2, losing again to Oklahoma in Norman (10-9), then again to Alabama (34-7), this time in the Sugar Bowl. The Huskers finished the season 6th in the AP, 7th in the UPI. This stylish glass stands just over 5" tall with a mouth just under 3-1/2" across.

1966 Bowl Games Glass - Orange Bowl Although not a Husker specific glass, this unique glass commemorates three different 1966 Bowl games and two National Champions. The Rose Bowl (UCLA 14 - Michigan State 12), Orange Bowl (Alabama 39 - Nebraska 28) and Sugar Bowl (Missouri 20 - Florida 18). The Orange Bowl ended up being the National Championship Bowl game for the AP after the three top ranked teams all lost earlier in the day. not in my collection |

1969 Kessler This is a commemorative by Kessler, listing the 1969 Nebraska Cornhusker schedule on one side - the Omaha Mustang semi-pro team schedule on the opposite side. The Huskers finished the season as Big 8 co-champs with Missouri. The Mustangs played between 1964-1971. The glass is 5-1/2" tall.

1963-1972 Golden Years of Nebraska Football Set This is a unique set of glasses commemorating the Golden Years of Nebraska Football from 1963 through 1972. Note that this covers the period of Coach Bob Devaney's reign as Head Coach, except for his first season - 1962. I believe this is because all of the glasses that are pictured here represent a season in which the Cornhuskers either won or tied for the Big Eight Conference Championship. If true, the only year missing from this set is 1966, and the only year that NU tied for the championship was 1969 (with Missouri). The only years during Devaney's tenure that NU did not claim the title were 1962 (1st season), 1967 and 1968 (6-4 seasons). Interestingly, the 1972 glass is not marked "Big Eight Champions" under the schedule, though the Cornhuskers were. If you have the 1966 glass, please email me! Thanks to Chad Maun for the photos! |

Nebraska #1 Jigger This one doesn't have a date on it, so could be from 1971 commemorating the 1970 National Championship, or could possibly have been made to commemorate a conference championship. The football pattern appears to be at least from the late 1960s or early 1970s. Any info? Thanks to Chad Maun for the photo |

70 National Champ Jigger This is the original "Nebraska Jigger" that most collectors are familiar with. It is the first of a long line of glasses (most labeled as "jiggers") commemorating National Championships. This first one is most rare, as no one expected NU to win the NC that year, hence fewer were produced. 4-1/2" tall |

Though hard to see, this glass features the 1970 season schedule and results, along with the Orange Bowl score of 17-12 over LSU on the bottom band. The 1971 version shows the '71 version of the scores and Orange Bowl victory over 'Bama, 38-6.

'70-'71 National Champs Jigger Not a great scan, as I got this one off of the internet. The white lettering on the back, which is vary hard to see here, states "National Champions, 1970-1971". This beauty is generally referred to as the "Bob Devaney #1" glass. You can see the front fairly clearly, so I'll spare the description. This piece was made as part of a complete serving set. Go here to see the entire ensemble. The border you see on the top and bottom are miniature footballs with red NEBRASKA on top, CORNHUSKERS on bottom. It is 6-1/2" tall. The wording around the helmet (repeated on the back) reads: NATIONAL COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONS
UPDATE: There is a second version that was put out by Misty's Lounge in Lincoln with the restaurant name proudly displayed along the bottom. Thanks to Chad Maun for the updated photo |

1970-71 National Champs Jigger This one followed the original Nebraska Jigger after NU pummeled Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide to win it's second straight National Title. The main differences in the design are the position of the 70-71 dates outside of the football, the white lettering as opposed to all red, and the smaller ball to allow for the state outline in the design. 4-1/2 " tall
As with collecting any type of memorabilia, part of the fun is finding out something that you didn't know about a particular item - especially an important and meaningful item like this jigger. These glasses were evidently available for sale in sets of six, or at least they may have been shipped to retailers in sets of six. Lonny Golka of Colorado sent in this photo of the box that his sister bought her set in right after the Orange Bowl - she kept them in it ever since! 1984 Sugar Bowl Champagne Misprint
Here is a very nice, hard to find misprint glass. It is a champagne glass from Sugar Bowl Suite 415 sponsored by Pepsi. It states that it is from the 1984 Sugar Bowl played between Nebraska and LSU, but is really from the 1985 Sugar Bowl played January 1, 1985 following the 1984 season. Nebraska won the game 28-10. This was the second of a string of three bowl games that NU played against LSU in a span of five years, winning all three; 1983 Orange Bowl (21-20), 1985 Sugar, and the 1987 Sugar (30-15).

1985 Sugar Bowl 50th Anniversary
Another interesting glass, in that it features the traditional block N, with "Sugarbowl 50th Reunion" framing it from above and below. Note that "Sugarbowl" is one word, not "Sugar Bowl." The 1985 bowl was actually the 51st played, with the first taking place January 1, 1935 between Tulane and Temple. So, it was the 51st game played in the 50th year. May have come from a reunion function that featured two types of party favors sporting the logos of the two teams that played, NU and LSU. This is a guess, if you have info, please email.

1993 Fed Ex Orange Bowl Bacardi glass. These were not available to the general public! They were used as a promotional item by Bacardi representatives for individuals in the press box, pre and post game parties and a few elite restaurants in the Miami area.
