Unless otherwise notes, the glasses listed below are in my collection

1963-64 Big 8 Champs Glass

This one states "Big Eight and Orange Bowl Champions 1963-64."  The Huskers only lost a close 17-13 game to Air Force in Lincoln to capture a 10-1 record enroute to a 5th/6th place finish in the polls at the end of the 1963 season.  In the end, NU finished strong with a 29-20 win over Oklahoma in Lincoln, followed by a 13-7 victory over Auburn in the Orange Bowl on January 1st.

1964-65 Big 8 Champs and

Cotton Bowl Glass

This one states "Big Eight Champions 1964-65" but only includes the 1964 season results on the back.  1965 was added since the bowl game was played on Jan 1, 1965. Updated photo from my collection.

1964-65 Big 8 Champs Glass

This is a great glass from the 60's commemorating the 1964-65 Big 8 Championships.  It showcases the schedules from both years on either side of the front panel.  The Huskers ended the season 9-2 in 1964, losing only to OU in the final game of conference pay, then losing 10-7 to Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl, ending up #6 in both polls.  In 1965, the Huskers ended up 10-1, losing to Alabama 39-28 in the Orange Bowl, finishing 3d in the UPI and 5th in the AP.

1966 Orange Bowl Glass

I know very little about this one, other than it
commemorates the 1966 Orange Bowl, which we lost to Alabama, 39-28.  It sports bold leafing along the top and bottom borders, as well as the border around the Red Man logo.

The top reads
"University of Nebraska"
"Big Eight Champions"
The bottom reads
"1966 Orange Bowl"

not in my collection

1966 Season Glass

The Huskers finished the season 9-2, losing again to Oklahoma in Norman (10-9), then again to Alabama (34-7), this time in the Sugar Bowl.  The Huskers finished the season 6th in the AP, 7th in the UPI.  This stylish glass stands just over 5" tall with a mouth just under 3-1/2" across.

1966 Bowl Games Glass - Orange Bowl

Although not a Husker specific glass, this unique glass commemorates three different 1966 Bowl games and two National Champions. The Rose Bowl (UCLA 14 - Michigan State 12), Orange Bowl (Alabama 39 - Nebraska 28) and Sugar Bowl (Missouri 20 - Florida 18). The Orange Bowl ended up being the National Championship Bowl game for the AP after the three top ranked teams all lost earlier in the day.

1969 Kessler

This is a commemorative by Kessler, listing the 1969 Nebraska Cornhusker schedule on one side - the Omaha Mustang semi-pro team schedule on the opposite side.  The Huskers finished the season as Big 8 co-champs with Missouri.

The Mustangs played between 1964-1971.  The glass is 5-1/2" tall.

1963-1972 Golden Years of Nebraska Football Set

This is a unique set of glasses commemorating the Golden Years of Nebraska Football from 1963 through 1972.  Note that this covers the period of Coach Bob Devaney's reign as Head Coach, except for his first season - 1962.  I believe this is because all of the glasses that are pictured here represent a season in which the Cornhuskers either won or tied for the Big Eight Conference Championship.  If true, the only year missing from this set is 1966, and the only year that NU tied for the championship was 1969 (with Missouri).  The only years during Devaney's tenure that NU did not claim the title were 1962 (1st season), 1967 and 1968 (6-4 seasons).  Interestingly, the 1972 glass is not marked "Big Eight Champions" under the schedule, though the Cornhuskers were.  If you have the 1966 glass, please email me! Click the text link for 1967 from Dan Wagner, as I ran out of room to add a thumb.

Glass70no1Jigger.jpg (57282 bytes)

Nebraska #1 Jigger

This one doesn't have a date on it, so could be from 1971 commemorating the 1970 National Championship, or could possibly have been made to commemorate a conference championship.  The football pattern appears to be at least from the late 1960s or early 1970s.  Any info?

Thanks to Chad Maun for the photo

70 National Champ Jigger

This is the original "Nebraska Jigger" that most collectors are familiar with.  It is the first of a long line of glasses (most labeled as "jiggers") commemorating National Championships.  This first one is most rare, as no one expected NU to win the NC that year, hence fewer were produced.

4-1/2" tall

1970 National Champs - Red Man

This is one of my favorite pieces, commonly referred to as the "Red Man" or "Harry Husker" glass.  You can see the front very clearly in the scan.  The back has "CORNHUSKERS" across the top clear band, with the regular season schedule and scores in the white band below, followed by "ORANGE BOWL CHAMPIONS" followed by the score.

Nebraska         17
LSU                 12

This glass is 5-1/2" tall.

1970 National Champs Tumbler

This glass has a matching 1970-1971 Tumbler that I have, this one I don't.  Though hard to see, this glass features the 1970 season schedule and results, along with the Orange Bowl score of 17-12 over LSU on the bottom band.

The 1971 version shows the '71 version of the scores and Orange Bowl victory over 'Bama, 38-6.

1970 National Champs Harry Tumbler

A great old tumbler featuring our good friend Harry Husker following the 1970 National Championship season.  Schedule and scores on the back.  One of very few items which display Harry Husker running on it!  Similar to a 1971 mug on the mugs page. Obtained through long-time contributor Lamont Lyon.  Thanks!

Jan 2, 1971 Omaha World Herald

The glass companion to other OWH mugs and glasses commemorating the first National Championship, after the Cornhuskers beat the LSU Tigers in the 1971 Orange Bowl.

Thanks to Brian Beverland of Omaha for the pic and info!

1970-71 National Champions Rocks Glass

Nice rocks glass that stands only 3- 1/2 to 4" tall. It is darkened glass with the logo etched on the front.

Thanks to Chad Maun for the photo and info!

1971 National Champs Tumbler

Here is my 1971 match to the 1970 version above.  The banner along the bottom reads:

"BIG EIGHT CHAMPIONS 1971"
"ORANGE BOWL - NEBRASKA 38 ALABAMA 6

Glass_72OrangeGoblet.jpg (116896 bytes)

1972 Orange Bowl Goblet

This is a very large gold rimmed goblet commemorating the Jan 1, 1972 Orange Bowl victory over Alabama that brought Coach Devaney and the Huskers their second consecutive National Championship.  It stands a whopping 11" tall!

Thanks to an anonymous contributor for the photo and info!

'70-'71 National Champs Jigger

Not a great scan, as I got this one off of the internet.  The white lettering on the back, which is vary hard to see here, states "National Champions, 1970-1971".

The photo is a little deceiving, as this is a 4-1/2"  tall jigger, not a small shot glass.  I had assumed it was smaller until I received mine.

1970-71 #1 (Bob Devaney)

This beauty is generally referred to as the "Bob Devaney #1" glass.   You can see the front fairly clearly, so I'll spare the description.  The back is blurry, but lists the season schedule with scores.  5-1/2" tall.  Here's one with signatures below from Dan Wagner - Jerry Tagge, Johnny Rodgers, Bob Devaney and Cletus Fischer - awesome!

Glass1971signatures.jpg (70115 bytes)

Glass7071Misty's.jpg (70838 bytes)
1970-71 National Champions Misty's (set)

This piece was made as part of a complete serving set.  Go here to see the entire ensemble.  The border you see on the top and bottom are miniature footballs with red NEBRASKA on top, CORNHUSKERS on bottom.  It is 6-1/2" tall.  The wording around the helmet (repeated on the back) reads:

NATIONAL COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONS
1970-1971
GO BIG RED

UPDATE: There is a second version that was put out by Misty's Lounge in Lincoln with the restaurant name proudly displayed along the bottom.

Thanks to Chad Maun for the updated photo

Misty's 1970-71 NC Glass

A classically styled beer glass from Misty's Lounge in Lincoln.  It sports the Red Helmet with white "N", very common of early commemoratives from 1970 though 1973.  Very nice piece.

Misty's 1970-71 NC Glass
Here are three of the smaller Misty's commemoratives.  commemorates the Huskers' back to back Conference and National Championships of 1970-71.  It is more of a juice glass at 4-1/2" high.  The smaller is 4" tall. The thumb at lower right shows all three together from Dan Wagner.

Glass71JiggerBack.jpg (67116 bytes)

1970-71 National Champs Jigger

This one followed the original Nebraska Jigger after NU pummeled Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide to win it's second straight National Title.  The main differences in the design are the position of the 70-71 dates outside of the football, the white lettering as opposed to all red, and the smaller ball to allow for the state outline in the design.

4-1/2 " tall

As with collecting any type of memorabilia, part of the fun is finding out something that you didn't know about a particular item - especially an important and meaningful item like this jigger.  These glasses were evidently available for sale in sets of six, or at least they may have been shipped to retailers in sets of six.  Lonny Golka of Colorado sent in this photo of the box that his sister bought her set in right after the Orange Bowl - she kept them in it ever since!

Click the thumbs for larger views of the glass and box.

glass71JiggerBox.jpg (66935 bytes)

Misty's 1970-71 National Champs Jigger 2

This jigger is identical to the one above with a few style changes.   The main differences are the while laces on the football, "MISTY LINCOLN" on the bottom of the front logo, the white capital building, and "MISTY'S JIGGER" as opposed to "NEBRASKA JIGGER" on the back.

4-1/2 " tall

1975 Fiesta Bowl

Another classic 4-1/2" jigger glass commemorating the 1975 Fiesta Bowl.  Unfortunately, it ended up in a 17-14 loss to the Arizona State Sun Devils.

not in my collection - thanks to Dan Wagner!

1975 SAMS Season Glass

This piece is the last of a 13-piece SAMS collector's series commemorating the 1975 season.  Go here to read more details, more season glasses, and the '75 Fiesta Bowl commemorative coasters.   This piece covers the entire season with the schedule and results on back.  The other pieces cover individual regular season games and the Fiesta Bowl.

This glass has one problem - it reports the bowl opponent as Arizona.  We played (and lost to) Arizona State, 17-14.

6" tall

Glass77LibertyBowl.jpg (22012 bytes) Glass77LibertyBowl2.jpg (24490 bytes)

1977 Liberty Bowl Glass

This is a great piece of Husker bowl game memorabilia. It is a players/coaches gift from the 1977 Liberty Bowl committee commemorating the 19th Annual Liberty Bowl Kickoff Luncheon.  The back lists the results of the previous 18 Liberty Bowl games.

not in my collection - thanks to Bob Ihrig!

1978 Schedule Mason Jar Glass

Though technically a 'jar' and not a glass, I'm pretty sure it was used by a few folks as a glass at some point or another. Features the 1978 schedule on the back.

1981-83 Big 8 Champs Jigger

This is the younger "Jigger" commemorating the 1981-82-83 undefeated Big 8 Championship teams.  Same design and size as the three jiggers pictured above.  This version has a white picture of the state capital on back, under the words "Nebraska Jigger."

4-1/2" tall

Misty's '83 "National Champs" Jigger

Here is another example of a product made before its time.  An "error" item that will probably continue to appreciate over the years.  Proudly displays "1970-71-83 National Champs!"  The Huskers lost the '84 Orange bowl to the Miami Hurricanes, who won their first-ever National Championship by beating the Huskers 31-30 despite a last-minute surge by the Huskers.

4-1/2" tall

Glass84SugarBowlChampagne.jpg (68200 bytes)

1984 Sugar Bowl Champagne Misprint

Here is a very nice, hard to find misprint glass. It is a champagne glass from Sugar Bowl Suite 415 sponsored by Pepsi.  It states that it is from the 1984 Sugar Bowl played between Nebraska and LSU, but is really from the 1985 Sugar Bowl played January 1, 1985 following the 1984 season.  Nebraska won the game 28-10.  This was the second of a string of three bowl games that NU played against LSU in a span of five years, winning all three; 1983 Orange Bowl (21-20), 1985 Sugar, and the 1987 Sugar (30-15).

Thanks to Chad Maun for the photo...

Glass85SugarBowl50thReunion.jpg (82744 bytes)

1985 Sugar Bowl 50th Anniversary

Another interesting glass, in that it features the traditional block N, with "Sugarbowl 50th Reunion" framing it from above and below.  Note that "Sugarbowl" is one word, not "Sugar Bowl."  The 1985 bowl was actually the 51st played, with the first taking place January 1, 1935 between Tulane and Temple.  So, it was the 51st game played in the 50th year. May have come from a reunion function that featured two types of party favors sporting the logos of the two teams that played, NU and LSU. This is a guess, if you have info, please email.

Bacardi 1993 Orange Bowl Glass

1993 Fed Ex Orange Bowl Bacardi glass. These were not available to the general public! They were used as a promotional item by Bacardi representatives for individuals in the press box, pre and post game parties and a few elite restaurants in the Miami area.  Though not a Huskers-specific glass, it represents an important bowl game in the Huskers' rise in prominence during the later years of Coach Tom Osborne's dominant teams of the 1990s.

Bacardi 1994 Orange Bowl Glass

1994 Fed Ex Orange Bowl Bacardi glass.  All they had to do was change the date from the previous year's design, as Nebraska locked horns with the Florida State Seminoles for a second straight Orange Bowl, losing this National Title game in a thriller, 18-16.
